After a moment something about the size of a small horse hopped out into the grey twilight, and Carter turned sick at the aspect of that scabrous and unwholesome beast, whose face is so curiously human despite the absence of a nose, a forehead, and other important particulars.
—H. P. Lovecraft, The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath

That quote was the first thing that came to my mind when I viewed it. Credit both to you and the one who suggested it, I really love how shockingly human this thing's face looks despite how removed from human anatomy it really is. Exceedingly intriguing...

Thank you! I like when people notice things about my beastie! (And I'm a huge Lovecraftian fan too)

Yay! Lovecraft mania! I do have to say Lovecraft has inspired some crazy crud. Anyways, like the beastie a lot. What inspired his design?

Man, a lot of things. My first 'sona' (I hate that term, but it's the best descriptor I can think of to use) was a pretty ho-hum-dime-a-dozen design, basic 'dragon'. I wanted to stick with it, but I wanted something different, something that wasn't the norm. So I just started sketching, taking design points that I liked and kinda slapping them together until I found something that could work. Its just a lot of personal touches, a bit of color I like here, a feature I've found interesting there, exc exc.

To be honest, at first I hated the frontward teeth and the long pointed nose and chin, but the more I continued to draw him, the more it just kept happening and happening.

Sweet! I'm glad to hear you end up taking design points you at first don't like, it seems I never have a drawing that turns out precisely as I imagined it. And yet some of those little things you don't plan for are what end up having the most impact.

Ah, Lovecraft.

It was suggested by *ShadowToxin, and I agree, her creature has a wonderfully human quality to it, despite its inability to really move its face much. Thank you!

Not a problem! It's amazing how easy it is to distort human features, but how difficult it is to make nonhuman features appear human in aspect.
